A Washroom Designed for Comfort & Independence

Jacobs Construction Inc. renovated this Brampton washroom to help a homeowner’s elderly mother use the space with greater comfort, confidence and independence. Working within a compact room and around an existing window, we combined practical support features with a bright, modern finish.

Before closing the walls, we installed solid backing to provide secure mounting points for the grab bars. Bars were positioned inside and beside the shower, behind the toilet and along the adjacent wall to offer support throughout the room. A battery-powered, sensor-activated faucet makes washing easier without the need to grip or turn a handle.

The family wanted the vanity beside the shower, but the window above it left no conventional position for a mirror. Our solution was a custom sliding mirror on a barn-door-style track. It moves across the window for use at the vanity and slides aside to let natural light into the room.

The renovation brought together a glass-enclosed shower, large-format wall tiles, a recessed shower niche, tiled flooring, a new vanity and updated lighting. The result is a welcoming washroom with thoughtful details that support everyday life while preserving the warmth and character of a family home.
